Zombie Girl

So, right before the celebration begins, you know I had to start up with this fun image. I guess when you have been through such a as brain surgery, you must learn to keep a sense of humor and since for me things turned out so well.  I must say the saying does make me laugh, "I can see clearly now, the brain is gone...."  Now for me, that is very much true.  Perhaps the pretty lady holding a brain on a plate is a bit much, lol!

Plus of course, in my case, they did only remove the back left  hand temporal lobe, a decent size piece of it.  Risky place for brain surgery as the Temporal lobe actually controls your memory in several different ways both recall and storage. To make it a full three years without having a seizure is wonderful and so I am now ready to celebrate!!  This great stamp comes from Queen Kat and is called Zombie Doll from Carissa Rose.

So, what's going to happen during blog candy month?  each day (maybe a surprise now and then) there will be a chance for you to leave a comment on the posting, I will pick a winner.  Sometimes the winner will be a lucky number, sometimes the winner will be every 10th posting or some random choice....Winner's won't get announced until a couple of days later.  That gives my friends all over the world a chance to catch up.  You are welcome to sign up for every contest, please do so, but do so once.  Some days there might be a special question or guessing game, read the post to see....some days there  might be multiple winners.  Eventually I will have a master list of all the winners that you can be checking.  All prizes will get mailed at the END of the month, usually pretty quickly, if you see your name on the winner list, you can email me your address.  I do expect some people may win more than once, so feel free to play in all the contests.  Lots of winners will be named at the end including a Grand Prize of 8 stamps (2 sheets worth of rubber) from Sweet Pea stamps!!

Best Wishes and Good Luck everyone!!  The next blog post starts the games.

Hugs, Holley

Love Conquers All

Well, it's the day before Celebration Month and here's a fun card that I am showing both on my blog as well as the Paper Temptress Blog.  I am using a Digi-Stamp designed by artist Sandra Caldwell from her Babycakes Doodle This & That stamps.  All the papers on this card come from Paper Temptress.
The gorgeous papers on this card all come from Paper Temptress.  The base of the card is called Mangue Sparkle.   It's hard to see on this image, but it actually has glittery flecks in it.  It really shimmers in the light.  Gorgeous!  The shiny orange layer is called  Flame Mica, which I embossed using a cuttlebug embossing folder.  The image was printed on Neenah Solar White.  I use 80lb Solar White when I do Digi-Stamps because it runs through my printer so easily and also works very well with copic markers.

Are you ready for some candy?  We're gonnna have goodies from both Artist Sandra Caldwell AND Paper Temptress.  WOO HOO.  Goodies start on Friday.

Cheers, Holley

Beautiful Memories

Here's a stunning image from a Scrapbook Stamp Society artist Memory Howell.  I love her creatures, this one is called Fairy 30.  This creature just looks lost in thought. I added some wonderful lace that I got while in Istanbul and a simple saying "Beautiful Memories."  I think both the fairy here looks in deep thought like it is having beautiful memories as well as I am looking at the lace and thinking of the wonderful memories of that vacation.
Are you ready for blog candy yet?  The company that sells this stamp is one of the companies that is giving prizes!! It's all getting started on Feb 1st.  Stay tuned.

You're Tweet!

Here's a wonderful image from  Hero Arts.  Here in our neighborhood in Austin, I have seen owls.  I must say they don't look much like this one. They are in fact now very large looking compared to many of the photos I have seen of owls.  But, when that very small owl spreads out its wings and flys, it's amazing.  What a site.

Are you ready for blog candy month?  I know I am now....to start off...all you have to do is take the image on the top right hand of the screen and add it to your blog to advertise the blog candy. Be sure to put a link to my blog from your blog and let everyone know that the blog candy will be running from Feb 1-28th.  email me at htondre@aol.com with your blog address so I know you have done it.

A Window View

I took a fun stamp designed by Elisabeth Bell of a little girl sitting outside with flowers.  This stamp is called Lady Bug.  You can see on the top of the card I added some shimmery mica cardstock with designer lace across the top.  I did that to make this card look like a "window," where the lace and die cut across the top of the card are the heading curtain. (lol, for those of you who like me aren't decorators, I am talking about that top part of the curtain that is used to decorate and hide the "curtain bar upon which the curtain slides back and forth or the window mount with the blinds.  Sorry if my terminology is not correct.)   Now, the sweet child is of course sitting outside and the person reading the card sees the child as if they are  "inside" the home looking out the window.
I also added a wonderful sentiment to the card, "There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: one is roots, the other is wings."  Be sure and check out all the wonderful designs that Sweet Pea stamps has by artist Elisabeth Bell!  They are all just as cute at this little girl.

Have a great week and think about creating a card from some unique point of view, be sure and check out the amazing blog candy in the posting below. WOW, there's also a posting on Jan 16th.  The pre-Feb contest for candy is to take the blog candy image on the top right hand column and put that on your blog.  Please direct people back here and let them know about the MONTH long celebration happening at Holley's Blog. Email me when you do it, so you are eligible for the contest!! htondre@aol.com

Love and be Loved

"To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides."  What a wonderful sentiment today.  I just love this adorable fairy stamp from Kraftin' Kimmie too.  Isn't she adorable?  Isn't this saying all we really want?  to love and be loved?  I know that's really all I want most of the time.  I am so lucky to have such a wonderful husband who does nothing but love me with no string attached. I never knew that love came way before.  Of course being religious, I guess I do know that GOD loves us with no strings attached, but it's something that is hard to really understand in concept, when we as people can't really do this ourselves.  Coming from a place where you don't always feel that, it was a real lesson I learned over much time of being with him that love can really be unconditional.
So go out today and try to just love. I know it can be hard to just give it away without the string attached. But remember, there are people who love you with out strings attached.  Much love everyone.  Get ready for some blog candy, I have lots of love to hand out, EVERY DAY of Feb....mark your calendars.

Project Materials:  Cardstock (Bazzill, Neenah);  Rubber Stamp (Kraftin' Kimmie); Ink (Memento, Colorbox Chalk);  Saying (KI Memories); Ribbon (Michaels);  Adhesives (Pop dots, Glue All, Ribbon Glue); Color (Copic Markers);

Remember

Hi everyone!  Here's a great image from Sweet Pea artist Karen Middleton.  She's called Face #1.  I just love the deep thought she's in.  I added the perfect sentiment to go with her "Remember" because she's looks lost in her own memory.  I am getting ready to make lots of fun valentine cards an even though this specific card is not for valentine's you can certainly see my coloring patterns in my mind are already thinking about it.
The card base is using some Bazzill printed paper with Glaze;  the frame comes from Spellbinders; and that gorgeous ribbon is some that I got while on vacation in Istanbul, Turkey.  What a great ribbon shop! it was like THREE stories high full of ribbons and  laces.  WOW.  I may have spent about a 100 tl (Turkish Lira--US equivalent of maybe $60).  Be sure and check out the other great stamps from Karen Middleton.  I think this image could be made into a nice Missing you or Thinking of you card as well.

Here's a great new image from artist Myka Jelina of Queen Kat stamps. This stamp is called Seika.  I just love all her images.  Excited to announce also that Queen Kat is participating in the celebration next month as well, she will be giving away a prize too!  Thank so much to her (Vikki)!!

Drop by the Queen Kat store and check out Myka's stamps and some of the other wonderful artists that she sells. If you haven't seen initial photos of SOME of the blog candy, scroll down and check it out!  This will all be getting started in Feb.  For those of you who are new, the reason for this huge celebration is three years ago in Feb, I had two brain surgeries that saved my life!  I was so very sick and hurting everyday.  After surgery (and about 2 months of healing), it was a real miracle.  My crafting friends were SO wonderful and SO supportive, both when I found out that I was going to have the surgeries, during my surgeries and after!!  Now every year, I have a huge celebration to give back my blessings to everyone.  Many wonderful companies join in with me and also give away great goodies too!!  It will be a month long celebration.  You can win no matter where you live, you can (and many people will) win multiple times over the month so I will not mail out any prizes until March.

Be Brave, Be Bold!

Here's a wonderful image from Tickled Pink, now made by CC Designs.  I just love this artist's stamps!  I am using some stunning papers from Paper Temptress to create this card as well as some gorgeous lace that I got from Istanbul. I thought Pink would be perfect as it is always the color associated with the Fight on Cancer.  I added a small saying sticker from Cosmo Cricket, Be Brave, Be Bold.
Paper Temptress papers on this amazing card include the base of the card which is a gorgeous mica cardstock called Azelea.  The image was stamped onto Heavenly White.  I die cut out my image using Spellbinders Nestabilities and layered it onto a piece of  Hambly Overlays.  These overlays are great because they come in a 12x12" size, I can pick just a small portion of the sheet and use what is visible on that piece of the sheet to enhance my card.  You can see through the sheet that I chose, the Orange Bohemian, to see the Azelea Mica.  If you take a look at the Orange Bohemian sheet, you would never guess that is the paper!  The textured look gives a lot of depth to card along with the lace.

Paper Temptress will be giving away a wonderful prize next month, a $25 gift card to her store!!  WOO HOO!! Thanks so much to the Paper Temptress.  What would you want to spend that on?  (click here)

Forest Fairy

Here's a wonderful Sweet Pea stamp from artist Teresa Sherman called Fern the Forest Fairy (Plate #222).  If you check out her image on the Sweet Pea site, you can see how different my image looks due to the coloring.  One major change I can say is when I left the image initially with a white background, then initially contemplated a sky blue or darker (say night time blue) background.  After looking at the image for a while, I actually ended up coloring the background in a Copic Warm Grey.  Turned out great and it really makes a difference in how the final image looks.  I wish I had scanned in the image prior to adding the background color so you could see it.
So, next time you are coloring something up, think about not just your image, but also the background color that will really make your image stand out.  I tend to use cool greys or light blues, but sometimes a warmer colored grey looks so much better.  I added a great sentiment to this card "Yesterday is already a dream and tomorrow is only a vision, but today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope."

Project Materials:  Cardstock (Bazzill, Neenah, DCWV);  Rubber Stamps (Sweet Pea);  Ink (Memento);  Flower (Recollections); Brad (BoBunny);  Adhesives (Pop dots, Glue All, Glue dots);  Gold ink (Krylon); Color (Copic Markers);

Hello Sweet Friend

Here's a great Queen Kat stamp from artist Kristie Silva (Creepie Studios) called Midnight Dreary.  Isn't she adorable?  I love this artist's images.  I added a text from Cosmo Cricket that says "Hello sweet Friend" as that's what I can imagine her saying to that little doll.  I used some great Halloween skull theme ribbon to match the skulls in her hair and on her shirt.  Too fun!

Project Materials:  Cardstock (Bazzill, Hobby Lobby, Neenah);  Rubber Stamp(Queen Kat);  Ribbon (Michaels, JoAnns);  Bling (Pearl-Queen &Co);  Die Cuts (Spellbinders Nestabilities);  Saying (Cosmo Cricket);  Color (Copic Markers);  Adhesives (Pop dots, Glue All, Ribbon Glue, Glue dots);

Baby, it's cold outside!

Baby it's cold outside!  I guess that is of course relative to where you live.  To those of us here in central to south Texas, we are used to temperatures in the 70s, perhaps the 60s in the winter.  So, anything below 50 is uncomfortable.  So, as of late, it's been in the 40s for about a week, that's about as cold as it gets.  Now, I mean a HIGH in the 40s, so of course, add the wind chill, night time low,....it is getting to freezing, occasional snow (which is unheard of here), and even colder outside of the city itself.
Had to make this cute card to commemorate the coldness.  I will say real (meaning any level of snow that actually covers the ground completely) I can recall maybe three times my entire childhood, the last one being in high school, and once with us being out in the hill country! Since then I have lived further north and seen it more frequently, but still not used to anything but wearing shorts year round.  I don't own a "real coat," I wouldn't recognize a snow blower if you showed me one and I have never shoveled a sidewalk ever!  Stay warm.

Project Materials:  Cardstock (Bazzill, Neenah);  Rubber Stamp (Crafter's Companion); Ink (memento, colorbox chalk);  Lace (JoAnns);  Saying (Cosmocricket);  Adhesives (pop dots, Glue All, Glue dots, ribbon glue); bling (skittles);

Snowman says thanks!

Happy Monday everyone!  You know what that means?  I am sure if you have visited before, then you know Monday is often for a Squigglefly Challenge.  This Monday is Rhonda's team and I am making a card to participate in this week's challenge.  The theme this week is to make a thank you card.  This is a perfect time to do it, as I know everyone has gotten many wonderful things over the holidays.  I am using an adorable new image from Cheryl Alger called Winkie's Snow Day Dreaming.
All the great papers on this card are from Paper Temptress.  So check them out, the base of the card is a bright red cardstock called Pop Tones Wild Cherry.  The snowman stamp was printed out on Neenah Solar White 80lb paper.  For Digi-stamps, I typically use this paper because it runs through my particular printer very well.  If I am rubber stamping the images and coloring in copic markers, I also love to use the Heavenly White paper.  The background paper that I die cut with Spellbinders as well as the paper that I tore behind the saying is Glossy Sky Blue.  To finish of the front of the card, I used a piece of the Hambly Overlays.  These sheets are typically sold in 12x12" papers.  They are just perfect for adding wonderful embellishment to your card that's unique.  A single sheet is enough for tons of decor for lots of cards.  The sheet used on this card is the Gold Hanging Heliconas.  Lastly, I used a small piece of translucent vellum for the saying, you can either stamp a saying on it or run it straight through a printer!

Be sure and drop by the Squigglefly Challenge Blog this week and play in the Thank You card contest!  You can use any stamp you like, but if you use a Squigglefly stamp, even a freebie, you are eligible for a prize.  Check the Squigglefly Site for Freebies.

Project Materials: Cardstock (Paper Temptress);  Digi-Stamp (Squigglefly); Button (Bazzill);  Adhesives (Pop dots, Glue Dots, Glue All);  Die Cuts (Spellbinders Nestabilities);  Colors (Copic markers);

Silent Cry

Here's an amazing stamp from Sweet Pea artist Ching-chou kuik.  This image is Silent Cry from Plate #232.  I love the artist's depiction of the woman crying in this image.  Makes me think of myself at times.  I added a sentiment "Live & Learn" as that is often what I have to tell myself at those times when the tears are coming down my face!
All the stamps on Plate #232 are just stunning.  Be sure and check out the New Year Specials at the Sweet Pea site.  Now is the time when I go check out my favorite store for the wonderful New Year sale with that little extra Christmas money.  The new stamps at the store are amazing!

Cheers, Holley

I added a fun little sentiment "Celebrate memories" to the card along with some beautiful lace.  Hope this card has you in the mood for some fun stamps.  My recent fav from Sandra is a funny stamp of a chicken chef who's holding a leg of fried chicken!! HA!  Check it out HERE.

Crazy in Love

Here's one of the Naughty Girl stamps from artist Heather Valentin of Addicted to Stamps (Scrapbook Stamp Society), her name is Chef Lola, she's currently on sale for $1, if the link I put doesn't work, just do a search for Chef Lola.  Let's start this new year off with some truly, madly, deeply XOXO!!  Perhaps if I get a chef costume like this my husband will ignore the taste of my cooking and simply kiss me!  (OK, after 15 years, my husband KNOWs about the limits of my cooking, lol).
