Be strong

Well, it's another Bugaboo kind of day!  Woohoo.  This company is giving away some awesome gift certificates to their store.  The image I am using today is called Strength Fairy.  I totally LOVE the sentiment that comes with this image, if nothing was more perfect to go with this month's celebration but this sentiment.   "Sometimes, to get the best out of life you go through some of the worst.  No one said it would be easy. BE STRONG."

I almost even have to say something about the hair, as when I had my surgery they literally shaved my head down the center, around the back, almost like a reverse Mohawk.  something like the girl here, but not nearly as nice. in fact, way worse.  I had already cut off about 2 foot worth of hair to donate to Locks of Love, but it was definitely a shock to see myself in the mirror the first time (that was about four weeks post surgery)

Here's some additional cards created by  Friends and Design Team Members of Your Scrapbook Place who has monthly Anything Goes contests HERE.

So, what other types of crafting do you guys like?  I also do a lot of jewelry making.  I made all kinds of wonderful necklaces and earrings for the church's bazaar last year.  I have done and taught classes using polymer clay (mostly jewelry making, mokume gane and stamping). Hmmmm....dabbled very lightly in books or other deco making or doing fun crafts with the kids for things like Vacation Bible study.  What other hobbies do you like?

Wow, just three days left?  can you believe it?  have you been keeping an eye on the winner's list? you best check NOW!! CLICK HERE  Just in case this is your first day here, be sure and go to Feb 1st!!  that is the main drawing for the whole month from which winners and grand prize winners will get drawn as well!

  11. Such a neat card. And the sentiment is so perfect. They could have at least gave you a hair cut that wouldn't be so bad. Bit I guess sometimes it's just hard to do. Love the elephant. He's cute. And both cards are adorable from the design team. I do a little bit of everything. I just started learning how to crochet. I paint, do all kinds of things on canvas, love Mixed media, I draw, diy projects, home decor, it's in my plan to learn more jewelry making, wood burning, glass etching and more this year. I'm just one of those out it in front of me and I will learn to do it people.

  13. When my friend had brain surgery they did the same thing with her hair. I don't know why they just do take it all off. who is going to want to look like an old man balding man that decided to grow the sides of his hair out....LOL Myself would rather loose it all. And it is easier to take care of. I make a lot of cards. But I am trying out my skills on art journaling. Bugaboo does have some sweet images. TFS

    1. I remember the day that my hair started falling out and was devastated! I shaved it all off and hid myself away for weeks. Finally, I decided that I was who I was and if people wanted to stare that was fine!

  17. My daughter has that haircut right now by choice. She's 14 and wanted to look 'edgy'. She wears her clothes like that when the weather permits too! I need a print of that stamp just for her album! lol

I have dabbled in about everything at one time or another. I sew a little, but don't do any kind of embroidery anymore. Never really quilted though. I crochet a bit, but don't knit anymore. I like to cast jewelry, but don't have the equipment anymore. I do some beading and wire wrapping occasionally. I do all kinds of paper crafting. I paint some, and make a lot of different kinds of altered mixed media pieces. I want to experiment with encaustic wax painting next! lol

  37. Hi again, Holley, I love the above cards, you such beautiful work! Wish that I could afford some of the stamps and embellishments you use. Am unemployed. I used to make earrings back in the 70's, I have also quilted, done some cross stitching, now I make cards all the time, do swaps, have not ever sold any, if mine looked like yours, well I think that I could sell some to get more stamps. Blessings!

  38. A wonderful card Holley. Both the sentiment and image are very moving. I can see how they must appeal to you, it's almost as if they were made for you.
My first venture into crafting was dressmaking. Then I did tapestry and embroidery until I discovered papercrafts. That's all I really have time for nowadays x

  40. Boy this card is so me for the last few months so many sad things happening in my life but God is turning it all around for me a little at a time. I have to say my son's cancer haircut was really weird too his was all shaved in the front and sides and left alone in the back. But you know what I was happy with it as I still have my son. When it finally began to grow back in it was odd as the back of his hair was light and the front was all dark as could be. He dyed it all Navy Blue and I loved it as where before the cancer I would have forbidden it, I again was just happy and thankful to have him with me, If he had never had the cancer I would have not experienced all the many accomplishments he has made since he was diagnosed as terminal or witnessed so many great things and experienced what cancer can do to others. I now have a different feeling about life all together.
Other things I have crafted in my lifetime Wowza here we go LOL Ceramic's, Macrame, Crochet, Embroidery, Quilting, Sewing Clothes, Country Ruffle Curtains, Costumes and Multi other sewing crafts for bazaars, Cake decorating, Wood crafts,Towel Cakes, Diaper Cakes and Diaper Wreaths etc., Flower arrangements for wedding receptions and home decor, Scrapbooking, I just love to create my own designs in my crafting, no matter what the craft may be I envision what I want and fly by the seat of my pants a lot of times and just enjoy watching peoples expressions when they see something I have made. Would love to learn how to make jewelry someday.

I paint and if I see something else to do in the way of crafts I am always ready to try it a time or tow. Always go back to painting or stamping.

  50. Your hair was a small price to pay and it was short lived right?? Your card is great as usual! I love to read. I love any kind of craft. I used to make jewelry but now I mostly crochet, paint, cook etc etc

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love the sentiments on this card! (Image too but you know what I mean). I can just imagine the hair and how that would just add insult to injury so to speak. Even knowing it will grow back wouldn't be much help at that time. So glad it is all behind you now.

    I also love to bake/cook and sew/quilt.

  52. It's funny how a little thing can become a big thing. Luckily, hair does grow back, and the price was well worth it!

  53. What a great card for your Anniversary month! Love the beautiful image, great saying, wonderful diecuts and color combinations.Trading your hair for your health seems like a wonderful trade. Although, I'm sure it was a very difficult thing to go thru at the time. I enjoy making cards, scrapbooking and fun crafts with my 8 great nieces and nephews ranging in age from 1 to 11!

  54. Oh, I'll bet losing most of your hair was a huge shock but thank goodness it grew back and now you are reaping the rewards of the surgery. I love a good ending!!
I love to cook and bake, and do a little sewing as well. I'm not fancy in either of those but I do it with love and that's what counts, right?
